The Problem
In a fast-paced city like Toronto, many coffee shops are built for efficiency rather than connection. The challenge was to create a coffee house brand that could seamlessly transition from a productive daytime workspace to a calming evening retreat, offering professionals, students, and newcomers a place to focus, unwind, and feel a genuine sense of comfort, community, and belonging.

The Insight
A coffee shop can be more than a place to buy coffee. It can become a modern "third place"—a space between work and home where people feel comfortable enough to stay, connect, and unwind. This insight led to the idea of Luna as Toronto's Urban Living Room: a dual-state environment that supports focus during the day and restoration in the evening. As the day transitions into night, so does the experience—from a bright, energizing workspace to a cozy sanctuary where guests can relax, read a book, and feel at home. Cozy clothes and pajamas are welcomed. Inspired by the rhythm of the moon and the natural shift between activity and rest, the brand was designed around helping people transition between the demands of city life and the comfort of feeling at home.

The Design Process
The process started by exploring the role coffee shops play in people's daily routines. It became clear that most cafés are designed to support productivity during the day, but few offer a place to unwind and slow down in the evening. This insight led to the idea of Luna as an Urban Living Room—a space that evolves with its community throughout the day. In the morning, Luna provides an energizing environment for focused work and study. In the evening, it transforms into a cozy retreat centered around tea, reading, and relaxation, where even pajamas are welcome. This dual experience became the foundation of the brand, shaping a warm and inviting identity designed to make people feel comfortable enough to stay, return, and become part of the community.

The Impact
The new identity positions Luna as more than a destination for coffee. It creates a welcoming environment that supports the rhythms of everyday life—from focused mornings to slow evenings. By emphasizing comfort, community, and belonging, the brand helps transform occasional visitors into regulars and strengthens Luna's role as a trusted third place within the neighborhood.
